Continuous Team Feedback

Continuous Team Feedback

Are you a Leader? Measure.

Are you a Leader? Measure. Any type of organization requires measuring (all kinds of factors) and your team is, in a sense, also an organization.

Measure how you guys are doing, track the number of implemented features, story points done, man-hours worked, positive feedback from clients, issues, bugs, and so on.

And always ask yourself a question, what can you do, to improve your results - even if those are already great, and especially if something is wrong. Measure together with all your Team Members, it’s not against them, it’s for them and for you, you are a Team together, you are responsible together.

You will find out, that some things are easy to grasp into numbers, and some are not. Recent research overview proved that Team Members Engagement is a crucial factor in being successful, so you should pay special attention to it, which means, you should also measure it. Unfortunately, it’s hard to be measured objectively, however, our hands are not completely tied.

We have prepared a simple excel sheet which you can use to grasp Engagement indicators into numbers - just copy it into your own Google Sheets account.

Employee Turnover Rates

Start with measuring a simple (yet important) factor - turnover rates. In the excel you can add your Team Members employment/quiting dates and track whether trends are positive.

Story Points

Story Points are subject to a whole other discussion, here we’ll only sum it up - it’s mandatory to create proper, small stories, with general, relative estimations. When the above conditions are met, you’ll be able to read from Story Points History Chart, whether Team is evolving or maybe is struggling with something. There is also space for it in excel we prepared.

Continuous Team Feedback

Continuous Team Feedback is one of our own ideas, which we find extremely valuable! Many corporations gather feedback from employees, yet people usually don’t like it and are not truly honest there. Imagine you have a question How likely it is that you recommend our company - giving poor rate may make you a target for many unpleasant questions. Such surveys are usually made to The Team, not within The Team. Our goal is to track how Team works, not particular Team Members! So we have prepared simple measurement for the whole Team.

How does it work?

At regular intervals, ask your Team simple question How would you rate our work on a scale of 1 to 10?. For Agile Teams the best opportunity is retrospective meeting. To make it more fun, you can visualize the rate values somehow, below is our proposition. Then gather responses from everyone, for example, everybody can just send it to you (or another meeting facilitator) using your communicator. That’s it.
